Why a dedicated vector tool exists

AI image generation has spent the last couple of years chasing photorealism in raster formats. Tools that output genuinely usable vector files have stayed rare.

But some jobs simply can't be done in raster. An icon has to read at 16 px and at 512 px. A logo has to print on a business card and on a trade-show banner. A brand palette has to be swappable across a whole set. What these have in common is that one graphic must work at wildly different sizes and colorways — and a bitmap stores pixels at one fixed size, so it blurs when enlarged and needs regenerating to recolor.

Prompting differs from raster

Vector is more prompt-sensitive than raster. A slightly-off bitmap is often still usable; a vector file is usually the final deliverable, so a small miss means rewriting and re-running.

Lead with the subject. Start with a concrete noun: a fox icon, a subway line diagram, a coffee cup logo. Don't bury it behind a pile of adjectives.

Then state the style. Flat, outline only, geometric, hand-drawn, minimal — vector pairs best with clean, deliberate styles. Don't ask it for photorealism.

Finally add constraints. Color count, composition, intended use — each one pushes the result closer to what's in your head. "Flat geometric fox icon in orange and dark brown, front-facing, centered, with whitespace" is far more consistent than "fox icon."

When to reach for a different tool

This page returns vector paths. Several jobs don't suit vector:

  • Photographic images — realistic portraits, complex materials, richly lit scenes. Use the image generator and stay raster.
